2007-2008 Associated Student Council
Hello, my name is Ryan Naccarato and I am the student body president here at SCC. I am a fourth-year student with two associate's degrees earned at this college. I am currently in pursuit of three more degrees before I transfer to a four-year institution. My educational goal is to achieve a master's in mechanical engineering. So, my classes here are nothing but math and science in preparation for the transfer to a university. I have been with SCC's student government now for two years and I have a strong understanding of its function on campus. I am in charge of a very competent group of student leaders and feel confident in their abilities to perform any tasks I give them. They are my support structure and I could not get anything done without them. I will take on pet projects throughout the year and attempt to make some changes that help students, but for the most part I will be supporting the main goals of the student government to ensure their success. One of my biggest pushes is to encourage clubs to be as active as possible and to help bolster their enrollment. That is why I attend a large number of club meetings and activities. I pledge to give a 100% effort in the representation of students at all times. I will actively pursue all reasonable concerns that any student has. I also pledge to always do what is in the best interest of students. If you need to contact me, I will be available most days at the "Rant At Ryan" table outside the cafeteria between 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. and I also hold office hours. I am looking forward to leading this college through another great year.
Hello, this is my second year on SCC's student government and I know this year will be
awesome. I am a third-year student here at SCC. I am training to be a paralegal
in a law office and hope to graduate this spring. A long-term goal for me would
be to become a judge or work in the legislature. I love computers, reading, and espresso.
Feel free to e-mail me, even if it's just to say hello. My objective this year on
student government is to get students to be more involved in their college's functionality
and activities.
My name is Marissa Lynn Bronowski. I'm twenty-one years old, and I plan on getting
a two-year degree. I want to transfer to Eastern and then hopefully go to law school.
I'm currently the Student Activities Council Chairperson at SCC. My goal here is
to bring activities to the school and help support the students with whatever they
need. If you have any questions or have ideas about activities please contact me.
Hola, I am the Director of Legislative Issues for the Associated Student Council
of Spokane Community College for the 2007-2008 school year. I am enrolled in the
Registered Nurse technical program, with an expected graduation date of December
2008. I enjoy playing with my daughter, Aurora, and watching foreign films, as well
as hanging out with my boyfriend, Will, and seeing my family. My long-term goal
is to become a nurse practitioner or a research analyst, with a focus on international
healthcare and/or healthcare reform. I would ultimately like to promote increased
healthcare coverage by government or state agencies, increased access and resources
for low-income people to healthcare, and better understanding from any given populace
on the processes of disease and disabilities. I would like to apply these goals,
not just to Americans, but to the world's inhabitants at large. Please don't hesitate
to contact me if there are any legislative issues you would like to discuss. Thank
you.
My name is Alicia Lindner, and I am the Director of Administrative Services. I am a mother of four beautiful children, and a foster parent for my niece and nephew. My house is best described as chaotic, but I love every minute of it! I grew up primarily in Montana, but as a true "Navy Brat," I moved to Hawaii for my sophomore year and spent six months of my junior/senior year in Cusick, Washington. I then moved back to Montana, finishing up high school at Butte Central High School. My father instilled in me a great appreciation for nature. Throughout my childhood, we would take the weekends to go camping, fishing, hiking, and photographing nature. As an adult, I have followed my father's path by teaching my children about the beauty that is found in our own backyard. I can often be found lugging a camera on family outings, just in case I see something that I feel should be captured by my lens.
I am a Certified Medical Assistant and a Certified Health Unit Coordinator. My goal
in returning to college is focused toward gaining my associate's degree and transfering
into a four-year college. My main objective is to complete college with a master's
in social work. By achieving this level of education, I hope to be hired as a volunteer
coordinator for one of our local non-profit organizations.
Hello fellow students! My name is Camey Anderson and I'm your Director of Emergency
Services here at Spokane Community College. This means that I run the SCC Food
Bank, organize the Thanksgiving Baskets, and arrange the Tree of Sharing for SCC
students and their families! This is actually my second year being part of SCC's student
government, and I really enjoy it! I'm currently going to SCC for my nursing degree
and I'm accepted in the program this spring... YAY! When I'm not at school or work
you will find me snowboarding, hiking, wakeboarding, playing softball, camping,
reading, watching good movies, and hanging out with friends and family. I'd love
to talk to you or answer any questions you might have so feel free to call me 509-533-8913
or e-mail me.
Hello, my name is Aaron Fullen and I am the Senator of Arts and Sciences at Spokane Community College. I'm 21 years old. This is my second year, and I started last year in an attempt to discover what direction to take in life. I have fallen in love with the pursuits of biology and English, and I hope to receive both a B.S. in biology and a B.A. in English. From there I hope to pursue the study of neuroscience as I find that topic far more fascinating than any other pursuit in human history.
Here at the college, I hope to get to know the students in my division - understanding
what they would like to see done here at SCC to improve their daily student life.
I will represent my clubs to the best of my ability and provide a reliable chain
to the student government. I also would like to develop a working knowledge of the
subtleties and ways of government, and represent my position with an even, balanced,
and honest disposition.
My name is Kris Veselits, I'm 19 years old, and I am the Senator of Athletics, Student
and Instructional Services. I'm currently pursuing a major in English and my goal
here at SCC is to complete my AA degree and transfer to a four-year college. I enjoy
the simple things in life: music, writing, philosophy, astronomy, off-roading –
alright, none of these are simple, but they are all subjects that give back twice
what you put in, and I think that makes them a great use of free time. My purpose
on SCC's student government is to offer a student perspective with regard to the
divisions I am representing and evaluate which areas in my divisions need improvement
in order to boost student success. If you have any questions or concerns feel free
to contact me at any time.
My name is Matthew Kaczmar, and I'm 27 years old. I'm originally from New York State
and move to Spokane in December of 2002. I started at SCC in the winter of 2005
just trying to figure out what I wanted to do for a career. I'm now getting my associate's
in software development and will continue my education once I head further west
where I hope to get my degree in information technology and video game development.
My current position is Senator of Business, Hospitality, and Information Technologies
and my goals for this quarter are to help network all the school clubs and organizations
and to assist my fellow students with whatever they may need.
Hello, my name is Brian Gray and I'm your Senator of Health and Environmental Sciences
this year. I'm looking forward to working with the students here at SCC and plan
on doing everything I can to fulfill my duties. I'm a biological sciences major
and intend on going on to get my master's and hopefully a Ph.D. in my chosen fields.
My office is always open to the students of SCC, even those who aren't in my division.
If I can't help you I'll find out who can and direct you accordingly. I hope we can get
along this year and will do my best to do what's in the best interests of SCC's students.
Hey, I am Dustin Glueckert. I am currently attending my third year at Spokane Community
College. I just recently got done with the fire science program and I have decided
to keep going to school. I hope to transfer at the end of this school year to the
University of Montana and major in forestry. I am excited about student government
and plan to help my clubs the best I can. I love long walks on the beach. In my free
time, I like to sing and play guitar, I also like to hike, snowboard, and ski. I hope
to become a firefighter somewhere in Montana some day.
Hi, I'm Laci Keller and I'm a senior at University High School participating in the Running
Start program here at SCC. I'm in cross-country at the high school and spend most
of my free time running, working at a local pizza shop, or finding some way to volunteer.
I'm planning on continuing my education in psychology and philosophy and going into
clinical work. This is my first year on student government and I'm lovin' it!
My name is Sharlene Lichty. I will be graduating this June with my AA degree and
transferring to EWU for my BASW. I have four children ranging in age from 16 to
21. In addition to my student council position, I am the president of the Student
Awareness League, member of the Shut-up and Sign Club, and member of Phi Theta Kappa.
I believe that discrimination comes from ignorance; therefore I strive to bring
awareness on a variety of issues in an attempt to educate the public and reduce
discrimination on campus and in our community.
My name is Michael Watson; I am the Programmer of Multicultural Events. I earned
my GED from the Adult Education Center. My education goal is to become a radiology
technician. Some of my other interests are human rights, service learning, writing,
and comics. I am the President of NASO. My goal for the school is to bring more
unity to the school community.
Hello, my name is Deirdra Zubiate. Besides being a PTK member and culinary arts student,
I also game and enjoy being with my friends when I have the free time. My goal is
to graduate next fall and then travel while cooking, like being a chef on a cruise
liner. I like to think I'm pretty open because I like different genres of music.
From the throaty screams of hard rock, to J-pop, to opera, my musical choices vary.
So please, if there's any comedy or concert act you'd be interested on seeing please
feel free to talk to me about it. My office is located upstairs in the Lair (Room
214), and my office telephone number is 533-8253.
I accepted my current position as Associate Dean of Student Services for Student
Development at Spokane Community College in September 2003. I chose a career in
student services because I love to work with students in an exciting college environment.
I have eighteen years of experience in higher education administration, having worked
and taught at Whitman College, Gonzaga University, Washington State University and
Webster University. I hold a Master of Science degree in environmental science with
an emphasis in energy policy from Washington State University and a Bachelor of
Arts degree in geology and environmental education from the University of Vermont.
I am a passionate outdoor adventurer with extensive experience in mountaineering,
backcountry telemark skiing, whitewater kayaking, and sea kayaking. My claim to
fame is a successful climb of Mt. McKinley in Denali National Park, Alaska, the
highest mountain in North America at 20,320 feet. I am also an avid professional
photographer specializing in landscape, outdoor adventure, and photojournalism.
I strongly believe in community service, and currently serve as the Chair of the
Spokane County Air Pollution Control Authority Advisory Council. Lastly, I am happily
married to Betsy Phinney, and we are the proud parents of two wonderful daughters,
Madeleine Louise and Heidi Rose.
I started working for Spokane Community College in August of 2007. I am excited
about working students, especially as they seek ways to contribute back to their
college. I have been working in higher education for over four years. I have worked
in areas such as Residence Life, Community Service, Student Activities, Judicial
Affairs, Assessment and Training. I am originally from Minnesota where I completed
my undergraduate career by obtaining a BA in Mathematics from Gustavus Adolphus
College. Two years after graduating, I moved to Los Angeles, CA where I obtained
my M.Ed. in College Student Affairs at Azusa Pacific University. I really enjoy
movies, traveling, going out to eat, crafts and learning how to do anything new.
