FAQ
What are the requirements to join Phi Theta Kappa?
The Beta Epsilon Iota chapter at SCC has elected to set its standard at a 3.6 GPA, ensuring that every PTK member is also a member of the President's Honor Roll, making it a more prestigious club.
If I join, start taking harder classes, and my GPA falls below a 3.6, do I lose my membership?
No. Once you become a member, you are a member for life. We won't send the PTK S.W.A.T. Team to your house and shred your membership certificate. We figure if you already have a 3.6 GPA, you are in no danger of slipping to a 1.6!
How much time does being a member take? I have a lot of homework as it is.
The time a member devotes to Phi Theta Kappa is a matter of individual choice. Some Phi Theta Kappa members choose to devote many hours to chapter activities; others may elect to not participate at all. Phi Theta Kappa's Constitution requires only that a prospective inductee earn and maintain a certain GPA. No service activities may be required of new or old members, nor can the chapter withhold any benefits (i.e., wearing honors stole; receiving scholarship recommendations).
What about fees?
As of September 1, 2005, the Phi Theta Kappa International Membership fee is $75. It is paid only once. This includes a one-time regional fee, and also a chapter fee. The Beta Epsilon Iota chapter charges the chapter fee to help with the expenses of operating the chapter as do many other chapters.
What if I move after being inducted into Phi Theta Kappa? How do I update my address with Headquarters?
Members and other Society constituents can easily update their address information with Headquarters by using the On-Line Change of Address Form.
Also, members can visit the Phi Theta Kappa Enrollment Form to ensure that you have submitted your graduate/transfer date, major and other important information to us. Completing and updating the Enrollment Form will help ensure that you will be considered for scholarships and that you will have access to exclusive membership benefits.
I'd like to stay involved as an Alumnus after I graduate. How do I find out more about Alumni resources?
On www.ptk.org, visit the online Alumni resource, which includes an Alumni association directory, as well as a listing of Alumni groups.
