Gretchen Ford, Counselor
Gretchen Ford Welcome to Spokane Community College! As a counselor for SCC, I am available to assist you in a variety of ways. I work with the Running Start Program, Single Parent Program and the general student population participating in many aspects of your campus experiences.

If you are a junior or senior in high school, Running Start is an exciting and challenging opportunity for you to consider as you plan your educational future. By taking college courses while you are is still in high school, you can receive both high school and college credit.

Single Parent Programs provide an on campus support system and family activities that will assist you in making the most of your academic journey. The organization has a three-prong focus: to create a support network among single parent students, to provide social activities for single parent families, and to facilitate discussion about issues that impact single parents. The Single Parents Together Club sponsored events include New Single Parent Student Receptions, Family and Friends Potluck and Game Nights, speakers, voter registrations, and Parents' Nite Out!

There are many things for you to consider before you begin experiencing a college education and the best place to start is with the people in your life that help you in making important decisions. Whether that is your high school counselor, your parents, a mentor, your best friend or all of the above, discussing all the pros and cons will certainly help! I would also encourage you to visit the Spokane Community College campus and investigate the academic options that we have to offer. Information about academic programs and services can be found on campus in the Counseling Center in Building 15 or in the Community Career and Employment Services Center in Building 6.

Community College education offers a diverse and rich environment that contributes to a fulfilling life experience. I have been associated with Community Colleges of Spokane for the past eighteen years in a variety of roles. I bring those experiences to every student I meet in order to assist them in making appropriate decisions that will shape their lives. Remember to always plan early! As the Running Start and Single Parent Counselor at Spokane Community College, I look forward to assisting you in your adventure.
